Getting Married in Cyprus is simpler than you may think.

Cyprus Law is based on the English system, so weddings ceremonies & Wedding Certificates are in English! Marriages in Cyprus are recognised worldwide
You need to arrive in the country at least 5 Working days ** before the intended date of your Wedding service, with the required documentation to prove you are eligible, and free of any en-cumberant to be wed

**Please note that although 5 working days is usually a standard week, if there is a bank holiday during that week, it will be extended by a day. We therefore advise that you book a 2 week holiday, and submit your documents as early as possible upon arrival.



Required Documents, these must be ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS photocopies will not be accepted. And please hand carry these items., if you cannot produce them due to lost airline baggage, the authorities will not allow you to be wed.

  • Birth Certificates
  • Passports of Bride and Groom (full 10 year, with a minimum 3 months remaining)
  • Copies of Witness passports (we can provide you with your 2 witnesses if you require)
  • UK citizens will need a Statuary declaration or certificate of no impediment (affidavit) obtained in UK prior to departure (must be officially stamped and valid for 6 months. It is best obtained 4-6 weeks before your wedding day) -
  • Irish citizens will need a 'Freedom to Marry Certificate" obtainable from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland or the Irish Embassy in the UK. Irish citizens will also need Baptismal records from the Parish and a Freedom to Marry certificate from the Parish. Scottish and Welsh citizens may also obtain a "Certificate of No Impediment" from a District Registrar.)
  • Decree Absolute (if divorced)
  • Adoption certificate  (if applicable)
  • Deed poll proof of name change (if applicable)
  • Death certificate of spouse ( if applicable)
  • Evidence of parental consent (if under 18yrs of age)
  • At least one baptism certificate will be required for church weddings, and you will need to approach your local minister prior to leaving, to get a letter from him

If you are from a country other than the United Kingdom, it may be necessary for you to have your papers stamped by various ministries in your own country. Each country has different regulations and different departments dealing with these matters. You may need an “Apostille Seal”, please telephone your embassy in order to find out where to obtain this special seal. After your wedding, you may also be required to visit your country's embassy and the Ministry of Justice here in Cyprus  in order to have the papers stamped with the “Apostille Seal”. Therefore, it would be best to have at least 3 to 4 days after your wedding to obtain these stamps and papers.

You will also need either a Special Licence or a Form B Licence. These are a permits, issued by the Ministry of the Interior of Cyprus, that allow couples to be married on the island. The Special Form B is required for a marriage outside of the Municipality Office, i.e. in a church or an hotel.
